Do I need a dedicated IP?

Short answer: most people don't. Your VPS shares a public IP, and for websites and most apps that's completely fine — you get a free HTTPS URL and can point your own domain, all with TLS handled for you. Here's how to know if you're one of the cases that genuinely needs a dedicated IP.

You probably DON'T need one if…

  • You're hosting a website or web app (HTTP/HTTPS). Use your free public URL or a custom domain — see Enable HTTPS.
  • You just need SSH access — that already works on your assigned port.
  • You're running an API or app reachable on a custom port — just open a port.

You DO need a dedicated IP if…

  • You want to run your own web server on port 443 with your own certificates, directly on the VPS.
  • A partner needs to allowlist a fixed IP — a payment gateway, a bank/API, a client's firewall.
  • You're running a mail server (SMTP on 25/465/587) or other services that expect standard ports and a stable IP with reverse DNS.
  • You need every port to reach your VPS directly, not just the ones you open individually.

How to add one

It's a small monthly add-on (₹99/month). Top up your wallet, open your VPS in the dashboard, and choose Add dedicated IPv4. Within a few minutes your VPS gets its own public IPv4, and all ports — including 80 and 443 — route straight to it.

Two things change once it's attached: point your domain's A record at the new IP, and your SSH moves to the standard port 22 on that IP (no more high NAT port needed).
