Open a port

Running an app on your VPS — a dashboard, a game server, an API — and want to reach it from the internet? You can open a port yourself in a few clicks. No ticket, no command line.

Do it from the Firewall tab

Go to Cloud VPS → your server → Firewall, then Add rule and fill in:

  • Public port — the port people will connect to from the outside (e.g. 8080).
  • Protocol — TCP for almost everything; UDP for things like game servers or WireGuard.
  • Target port — the port your app actually listens on inside the VPS (often the same number).
  • Allowed source IPs (optional) — leave empty to allow everyone, or add specific IPs to lock it down.

Save, and it's live within seconds. Your app is now reachable at YOUR_IP:PUBLIC_PORT. The rule persists across reboots automatically.

Make sure your app is actually listening

Opening the port only forwards traffic — your app still has to be running and bound to that port inside the VPS. If a service binds to 127.0.0.1 (localhost only) it won't be reachable from outside; bind it to 0.0.0.0 instead. Quick check over SSH:

ss -tlnp | grep YOUR_PORT

A quick security word

Every open port is a door. For anything sensitive — a database, an admin panel, a dev server — set Allowed source IPs so only you can reach it. Never expose a database (MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Redis) to the whole internet; those get scanned and attacked within minutes.

Hosting a website instead?

If you just want a website on HTTP/HTTPS, you usually don't need to open a port at all — use your free public URL or point a domain, and TLS is handled for you. See Enable HTTPS.
